Re/Member Black Philadelphia is a multimodal platform that utilizes digital media and technology to document and celebrate the rich experiences, institutions, spaces, and cultures of Black people in the city.

Interactive Map

Explore Black Philadelphia from a spatial perspective. Our interactive map aggregates two-dimensional and 360° representations of people, places, and events related to Black Philly in the past and present.

Micro-Documentary Film

The Micro-Documentary Film series uses storytelling and critical inquiry to produce short films that will interrogate the experiences of Black Philadelphians as they negotiate processes of urban change. In partnership with project collaborator, 2658 Story, a youth-centered media production outfit, the project will pilot an eight-week summer filmmaking project with ten high school students, who will be supported in developing film production and storytelling techniques, and produce short documentaries related to displacement and community experiences in North Philadelphia.

Oral History Archive

Our Oral History Archive centers the voices and preserves the memories of Black Philadelphians. Here you will find a collection of oral and visual stories from individuals and groups concerning everyday life and historical events.

3D Archive

Our 3D Archive utilizes augmented reality technology to provide an immersive journey through Black Philadelphia. Take a virtual tour through the city’s neighborhoods, popular landmarks, and endangered spaces, or experience culturally significant events through the eyes of those who were there.
